Perdita, a mythological child who brought a love of the natural world to humans. Perdita Flats, the moniker given to this building, embodies the intention that residents will thrive and feel connected to the living Earth, beyond saving energy. The benefits of fresh air, water, and light support better physical and emotional well being.
Perdita Flats is a 3,528 square foot, three‐story multifamily building in Ithaca, New York. Its goal is to demonstrate zero energy performance while enhancing the lives of residents. The project is an all‐electric four‐unit building with apartment sizes ranging between 550 and 950 square feet. There will be two one‐bedroom units and two two‐bedroom units; the first‐floor unit will be ADA accessible. The project team is using an integrated design approach. This process helps the team better understand the building system interrelationships. This in turn allows for early detection of potential problems and can lead the project to cost‐effective solutions.
